Good evening.

After I wrap up a few projects around the house here my reward is to put my existing 100 gallon reef in the wall - or buy a 180 bow front and do the same.

However, I was looking for some ideas. I have several in my mind floating around - however, it is always nice to get other opinions. The best solution would be to get a tank that is viewable from both sides - as the wall I am targeting rests between the family room and my office / den. It would be nice to be able to see it from both sides...

Anyway - I like the idea of the bow front as well. Nothing too big - 125 or 180'ish. Would be a great time to move the 100 to a sump, refugium, etc.

Oh well - thanks for any tips, tricks, and pictures. Have a good evening.

Nice idea. Don't forget to account for the whackload of equipment that you will have to hide somewhere. Some guys have their sumps etc. in the basement.

An idea I was toying with was building a false wall (sacrificing a little square footage in one room) so the tank would be flush with the walls on both sides. This created a cavity between walls for a stand and equipment. Also built-in bookshelves, etc.

Then we moved :D . Never happened. My 140 is now built into a basement rec room wall (1 viewing side) with a fishroom on the other side.

If you're going to explore your idea, why not go with the bigger tank?

Fish,

Thank you for sharing. Very well done. I like it.

Mongo - to be honest, it is all I can probably manage. I am contect with my 100 and 125 - 180'ish seems to fit my comfort zone. :)

I like the idea of the false wall and bookshelves. That is very possible.

Thank you again for the ideas. It is already paying off.

hi.
Those are in-wall aquaria, not wall mounted. I guess the original poster means in-wall.

At any rate, true wall-mount aquarium are typically very thin (less than 4 inches), and not practical for reef. They hung on the wall like picture frame, and does not involve cutting a hole on the dry wall. Last one I see only have a bunch of guppies and swordtails in there...

I have seen the hanging tank also... As mentioned, they are typically under 4" wide. The ones I have seen are Fresh Water. I suppose you could make it a mini reef but would have to have rocks on the sides leaving the center portion open. You would also be very limites to polyps, shrooms, and maybe an invert or two. Cleaning the glass would also become quite a pain especially is you build up the sides like I mentioned...

Well - I guess I screwed up the Subject :(

Yes - I mean in-wall. I'm looking for ideas and see what others have done in regards to this. It would save a lot of room to start. Allow the walls to be painted and carpet to be replaced :)

The room behind the wall I am targeting is a den/office combo. Well, my German Shepherds bedroom too :) I really like the idea of the bookshelves and space to hide the equipment.

Bryan - very nice setup. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you,

This one has been up for about 2.5 years now. I just rearranged it and will take a few new photos next week. The staghorn in the center was growing into the glass.

Mike and crew, these are amazing setups. The amount of home reconstruction you guys have done is outstanding, it looks as professional as you could ever want it. Excellent room-retrofitting Mike! Cool web page.

ps, don't lose hope of the 4-inch wall mount reef aquarium for your bathroom, Id suggest putting it at eye-level next to the "can." :)
