I am having my canopy custom made my a carpenter. I saw it last week and it is coming along nicely. Made out of Oak with a natural finish.

I am planning on having 2 - 3 inch Icecap fans in the hood to remove some heat from the lights.

I am looking for ideas/recommendations on how to make the fan openings look nice.

A 3 inch hole wont look to good. The silver metal fan cover will look tacky as well.

Any ideas?

can you get a plastic square fan cover?

I had the circle drilled on my hood also, and did not look to good so just added corners to it, does not look great but better then a big circle with fan!

hope this helps

check out rockler.com. got to hardware, then entertainment center hardware, then groments and vents.

Another idea is to see if the carpenter could make vents slots in the wood with a router? This is what I plan to do with my new hood/MH's

It shouldn't be too difficult, a rectangular pattern would be easy, circular would be more difficult, be still do able. This way will probably cut down on some of the air flow, but appearance will be nicer.

Not sure how you will be able to match the wood unless you actually make a special cover out of wood to cover the holes. I used a metal cover like the ones in the picture above. I got it at an electronics store.

Go to a home improvement store to the duct work aisle. They will have oak, pine, ect vent covers. Get the 3x9 (might be 4x10)size and take it to your carpenter. He or she will be able to cut it down and refinish the side to look like new. I did that myself and it looks like it was made that way, And I am no carpenter. It was pretty simple, but I spent a lot of time on it as I wanted to go slow and have it look right.
