What? No current polls? Blasphemy! :P

I know that this poll has been done years ago, but in light of recent developments/studies, I'm curious how often hobbyist change their water nowadays.

Wow...I'm surprised by the results. For a while I was doing water changes twice a week...now I've scaled it back to once a week.

I actually don't mind the water change ritual. Does that make me goofy?

how the hell can you never change your water? wouldnt that cause water with almost no trace elements unless you dose?

I've said it before.... Dude that avitar really freaks me out... :?

Anyways, I rarely ever change water unless I need to, and thats rare... I went over 6 months with undetectable Nitrates, amonia, ect untill I started overfeeding my tank on purpose so the fish wouldn't eat my hatching clown larvae... And only then did Nitrates go to 12.5 mg/l....

Len,
I have a 75 that is just over two years old that has never had a water change. It does not have a skimmer and has never had any trace elements added. I do drip kalkwater right out of the tap. The tank has a nice bunch of smaller fish and a decent mix of soft and hard corals. I use 4 48" VHO bulbs for lighting. There is a good growth of macro algaes (mostly purples) in the tank that are harvested about once a month for nutrient export. The only trace element input would be via feeding which is done twice a day. I have a lot of other tanks that get varying frequency of water partials depending on fish load.

I try to do a 25% WC Monthly. Sometimes is slides to 6 or 8 weeks. But I prefer every 4 - 5 weeks. It's not that much trouble.

I'll be doing one this weekend as I just checked my log book this morning. Last WC was on 3/22/03. Opps. I thought it had only been 4 weeks. Must be getting old. It's a good thing I have a log.

The concept of never changing your water is misleading. Evaporation causes you to add water occasionally, and even though it won't evaporate salt, salt creep exists and works it's way into your skimmer cups, etc. and you do would add small amounts of salt even if you never do an official water change and just do topoffs.

Yeah, "never" was more or less an ambigious term used to described those who never actively swap out a significant volume of water for the purpose of exchanging old water with new water.

I find that the less i touch my tank, meaning W/C the Coral and Fish don't stress out. When i use to Change water ones a month, I would look at my fish. They would just just creep around very slow like as if they were going to die. I would say to them don't worry it just a W/C and they wouldn't believe me 8O. Hehe LOL.

So i don't do water Changes I top off water every 3 to 5 days depending how low my sump is. It get's very hot out here and i usually have to add 5 gals every 3 to 5 day. 5 day if i leave the doors open to the stand or 3 days if they are closed. :D
