I have a ten gallon nano that has no corals yet. Just live rock and two fishies.

The calcium level is 300ish, and i just purchased B-Ionic Calcium Buffer today to prepare my tank for corals.

Should I use this B-Ionic Calcium Buffer to RAISE the Calcium or should I go out and buy another product to add so i can RAISE the Calcium and just use my B-Ionic to maintain the levels?

If you recommend me to go out and buy a calcium supplment, what brand should I get or should i stick with ESV?

Thanks

Oh yea one more thing: what is the purpose of having 400+ calcium levels?

Is it for corals to Thrive?
For corals to Grow?
Or for corals to survive?

Cuz if it is just for Corals to Grow then I may keep the levels low since this is a Nano and i dont want any corals overtaking the entire tank so quickly.

you should water changes to raise the calcium.

bionic is difficult to raise calcium with. it is only good at maintaining a level.

Pod, are you sure you can't raise CA in a nano with B-ionic? I'm pretty sure particularly without a huge number of calcifying organisms it should be fine.

Hey RLiu, you know there is a Nano forum here? Check it out...

i haven't ever used B-ionic but i know that your average two part solution in my tank does two things for raising calcium levels....jack and sh!t...and jack left town :D

i think a ten gallon nano would be an easily treated tank with water changes. a couple gallons a day for several days and the level should be within acceptable limits. if the poster has been running his tank calcium down with no corals in it then i would think he hasn't done a water change in a while, and if that be the case, other element levels would be low as well.

a turbo calcium dose would be my other preferred method of raising the calcium level.

...but to answer your question Dan, no, i am not sure :D
