Im using my old Acura 200w heater. I like it cuz it clicks.

I put it in my 55 and set it for 78-79 degrees and it showed has 87 on my sticker thermometer and 85 on my hagen suction cup thermometer.

i then clicked the heater to 76 and the heat went to 84.

i now clicked it to 75-76 and i poured in cold water to bring the tem to 80ish

i turned on the heater and its off so i guess its hit its mark.

should i leave it alone or switch to my vista therm?
i would have already switched but the heater is located in my oveflowbox where my skimmer is hooked up and its a b!tch doing. just wondering if its a big concern. i know for sure it doesnt fluxuate so i should only be worried about the weird off-set.

what u think?

I usually ignors the markings on the heater. I find many brands are very inaccurate. I only go with thermoneters in the tank, and I always have 2 thermometers to double check the temp.

Same here. I have two digital thermometers (cost about 15 bucks each) and totally ignore the readings on the heaters.

Save yourself some time and headache and purchase a temperature controller, ie Medusa. This unit will regulate the temp instead of relying on the control in the heater. I made the switch due to the constant problems with heaters and have had great luck.......Good Luck

Does the Medusa support more then one heater?

You can add a multiple outlet extension cord to the medusa and all heaters can turn on all at the same time.

Qwuintus, I would also look into getting a titanium heater as well. I, and many on this board, had glass heater broke in the tank. You will not have that problem if you are using a metal heater.

yes I use ElboJager heaters too with 100% sucess. I have also started playing with a new type of heater called "pro heat".. I think they are great because they have a electronic thirmistat control and are made out of titanium so they can't break!

I have seen entire systems lost due to heater fail! I would spare no expense in this department!

I like the feel of the click, it lets me know it hit the mark i wanted. and its easier to switch temps.
