I have a 150 with 3 175 10k halides, 2 400 watt 20k radiums, and 4 96 watt pcs 2 blue and 2 white. I know I have a lot of wattage but a lot of it is 20k, this is my concern. All my perimaters look good.

You'll be fine I keep my SPS under 400 watt 20K Radium and they look great. Dr Mac only uses 400 watt 20k's

I think your lights are more than enough. I would try getting a frag or two that is acclimated to captive conditions already, and see how it fares for a month or so. Montipora Digitata is a hardy SPS coral that most people first start out with. They come in a range of colors as well.

Non linier water current is also important. I would recommend starting out with a frag rather then a small colony. Colonies are typically more critical of water current then a single frag IMO.

mike,

have at it. your wattage is high; you are right. however, your spectral output is fine too. bear in mind, while the 20k's may look very blue, they still have all of the necessary levels of other colors in the spectrum, mainly yellows and reds. they are just significantly heavier in the bluer spike (460 n) giving you the bluer look.

i might orient them in such a way to get nice mixed coverage throughout your tank, but go ahead with the acros. you will be fine.

i would do mid tank initially. keep an eye on them and then bring them on up.

good luck to you.

Mikef, I doubt anything hosting zooxanthellae would be lacking for light in your tank if placed correctly. Acros would be absolutely no trouble.

BTW, higher kelvins bulbs DON'T have as much intensity as lower kelvins.........it takes more watts to put out higher kelvvins so intensity is lost. Higher spectrum bulbs don't really have more blue........just less of other colors.........you are still fine.
