Lately the sponge filters in my sump have been filled with sand. I rinse and rinse and rinse trying to clean the filters. It's a PITA! I know, I know, I know, I don't need sponge filters and the are a problem if they are not cleaned regulary. I like the clean clear water that the filter help provide and I don't mind cleaning them weekly.

Anyway, to the clownfish. He has taken up with my tounge coral as his host. He is constantly burrowing in the DSB next tho the tounge. I added 50# of southdown in August and it is since then that I am having this problem.

Anybody got any ideas and how to stop this, other from remove the clownfish. He is my wife's favorite fish, so trading him in should be last resort. Oh, yeah, the tounge is one of my favorites. Oh yeah again,....I don't want to add anemone.

Gee, I got a problem, don't I?

You could try a piece of eggcrate just buried under the sand surface. This has helped me a lot. They'll still sweep it a bit, and expose it, but you can cover it over again when company comes.....lol..

It sure helps with my diggers.

hahahah.. I could not help but laugh at that last post.. it is so funny but so true. Basicly you can't stop the diggers.. They will dig dig dig and there is no way to stop them.. but the egg crate will stop the deep bed penatration and you can easily hide it when company comes over.

I have basicly done the same thing with my clows..

Let 'em dig... mine do it every time for a few days before they spawn. House Cleaning I guess.. I just let 'em be. It's their tank, I just look after things.

I put some small chunks of LR where he likes to wave his tail, similar to the eggcrate but a little more natural looking. If they're too small the female picks them up and moves them though.

Yeah, I ran into the same problem in my 75. It was so bad that my female had the sandbed down to the glass in several spots. I think that was the start of the long downward spiral this tank is going through, as the sandbed never got any decent denitrification going. I finally bit the bullet and pulled the sand and replaced it with a heavier grade aragonite. :?
