Take a cup of hot water and put the air intake tube into it. It should suck hot water into the venturi/pump at this point and fix the problem. If not, blow into the air intake line clear with your lungs. The harder you have to blow back, the bigger the problem. If it still doesn't work then take the pump housing off and ream all small holes (they will be evident) with a piece of coat hanger to get rid of any buildup.

Since my initial problems described above, I have not touched my turboflotor for over 8 months except to clean the cup.

There should be no need for an air pump.

Mogo and Fisheye,
thanks for the input, but this thread is pretty old, and i have since fixed my problem. i took the thing completely apart and scraped the venturi intake, it was full of calcium buildup. I have done this every six months and no more problems, works better than ever...

Thanks again...

I have a turbofloater multi 1000 as well. I have had it for almost a year now, I have not noticed any decrease in the amount of bubbles that my pump creates (aquabee). I too have times where my skimmer "seems" to be less efficient. I have questioned all the LFS around here (5 of them) and I have also spoken to the sales manager at aquadirect (authorized dealer for aquamedic) As your skimmer skims, the unwanted toxins decrease. Therefore, there is less foam produced. As your toxins slowly build up again the skimmer will produce more foam. I would think that the only way to continuosly produce foam is to overstock your tank with detritus producing animals.
Also, I have found a that if you buy a brine net and put you cube(s) of frozen food in it. Then rinse the cubes until melted to wash awy the liquid they are frozen in. Your skimmer will not overreact near as bad to the oils in the shrimp (brine/mysis).
I have discovered that the ponds that they breed the shrimp in is very dirty and nasty. they scoop an amount out drain a portion of the water and package the rest. Adding this nastiness to your tank certainly cannot be good.
