hi.
It is not exactly a conventional heat pump, but what wattage is it? Most are too small for anything more than 20 gal, but recently there are a few from China that may work for larger tanks...

They do work, but don't have nearly the cooling capacity of a compressor driven cooler. You would have to check out the specs more carefully, but I'll bet it couldn't cool a 58gallon tank more than a few degrees (maybe 5). Of course, if that's all you need and fans can handle the rest, it would save energy and noise. I couldn't tell if this was the same unit, but Fritz makes these type of chillers as well. They have some better info on their website and there is plenty of info on this technology on the web.

hi.
OK, I check the link. 240W is about 1/3 horse, so that should give you a reference point. AFAIK, being new product, not many had used it yet...

I hate being the ginny pig.
maybe someone will respond that is using one, I checked out the fritz site, they have a chart showing the cooling effect in degrees, but as far as I know that could be water at normal room temperature without lights.

thanks.
