Is there a reason the outlet on my new Iwaki MD-30RXT comes out at an angle rather than straight up vertically? In my application it would be so much better fit if I can run it straight up. Any reason why I shouldn't try to unscrew all the bolts and try turning it about 30* Or is it like this for priming / flow reasons?

Thanks

I want to know this also!! Mine is used and when I got it I thought that someone must have changed it from originally being straight up. And here I was going to just unscrew it......

hi.

All iwaki pump are point straight up vertically. If "comes out at an angle" is refer to the offset of the outlet (dimension 'f' in the diagram), then it is because the advanced design of the Iwaki pump that uses a more efficient unidirectional motor instead of bidirection impellers of cheap powerhead.

None of the iwaki pump is self priming (that i know of), and you can mount the pump vertical, hort., sideway, or at any angle.

You should be able to re-position the angle of the outlet without any problems. I did this on my Iawaki 40RLXT pumps, although the way the housing was constructed, I don't think I could orient it so as to come straight up (it had a slight angle). When I recently mounted these same pumps to the back of my stand (with the base vertical), I changed the angle of the outputs again. No problems.
