What brand of salt do you use and do you recommend it? the last time I set up my tank, i used what the LFS sold me, I had no problems, but honestly, I don't even remember what it was.

I.O. (instant ocean)

Made by same company as reef crystals but less expensive. Hopefully others may chime in but no complaints here so far.

I use Instance Ocean also. I have a very good Ca reactor so I can just about adjust my Ca and Alkalinity to what ever I like. I think the only significant difference between Reef Crystal and Instance Ocean is the Ca and Bicarb content of the salt.

ime-any of the popular major brands should perform well, or at least, adequately

i've used IO, Tropic Marin, Reef Crystals, and Red Sea, and so have my past customers-some have even mixed various brands-with absolutely no discernable ill effects

for my own tanks,-i used red sea exclusively,-and in spite of certain contentions that the ions resulting from the process of evaporating sea salt being improper, as is the manufacturing process involved in red sea-i had excellent results-both in spawning damsels, and w/inverterbrate, and coral health in my tanks.

fwiw:
i really don't think that the way a salt dissolves, (whether it dissolve completely or not) is an indication of it's quality, w/regards it's ability to meet the various animal's demands

i really thing that the main factor of concern to the hobbyist is the make up of the source water being used to make the sw for the tank, and the price of the salt mix

definatly NOT kent that stuff was unimpressive. i have been happy with tropic marin it is clearly been the best from what i have tried. red sea was not bad per say but not as good IMHO. it seems IO has alot of support in here and i have never used it so i cannot tell you between those two.
