Instead of black pellets Rich described, I am getting light tan colored sandgrains looks like. I have been using a 28G rubbermaid trashcan to mix saltwaters. I usually drop a powerhead in it and let it mix for up to a week sometimes before I use the water. I have recently noticed grains of sand (I don't know what it is actually) looking thing leftover. I wash out the trash can when I used up a bucket, and each buckets I finished, about 1/4 cup of sand deposit leftover.

Anyone know what it may be? Is it the magnesium crystallization? It's white to tan colored fine grains. Could it because I use tap to mix salt? All the extra hardness already present in tap crystallizing minerals in the salt mix?

Oh, I forgot to add, I have been using IO eversince as that's the only bucket of salt my LFS carries. It's a pain in the *ss to buy them in bags for me.

I like reef crystals. It mixes well and seems to keep my corals from closing up. My opinion is oonly worthy with the knowledge that I have never used any other salt.

Coralife - Chronically deficient in magnesium, will usually lead to problems maintaining alkalinity and calcium.

It figures that the only cheaper salt I can find up here now is Coralife. I now have TWO free T shirts  . Guess I gotta drive out of state to find a bucket of IO  .

Dude..if you hate those shirts or are too ashamed to wear them :) (joking) gimme a msg.. :)
