Hi, I just got a small humu picasso trigger two days ago and i'm not sure how to feed it. I tried krill on a pole but my Sebae clown just keeps stealing it. It is in with a 4inch Sebae clown and the trigger is 4 and a half inches, there is nothing else in the aquarium except plenty of live rock to hide behind. What should I do, I have tried flake and krill, tommorow I will try brine but I don't know what will work.

John

ok, thanks for the advice, but I'm a little worried about adding feeder fish. Usually LFS guppies have ich and last time I fed them to my last fish(Piranhas) they got ich from them. Can freshwater ich be transfered to saltwater and if a trigger eats the guppy will it get ich. I don't want to go through losing another fish to ICH after I lost my prize percula clown to it.

Mine likes frozen krill.

I think he will be killing you clown in short order. Huma's are notoriously mean. Mine killed a ****** Triger, A 5-line wrasse, and a red lipped blennie. At that time he was small. Maybe 2-1/2". The victims were 4 - 5" long. They lived in harmony for 3 - 4 months. The the killing spree began. He picked them off one by one. He now lives with a large Lion fish and a large Snowflake Ell.

That is the risk you take with a huma huma. They are way cool fish. They just sometimes go postal (for the lack of a better word).

Good luck!

Freshwater ich does not get transferred in full strength saltwater environment. The fish that died from ich must have ich already and is weak.

Entice your picasso with live food first and slowly wean it to frozen krills. After it acclimated in your tank, it will eat anything you drop into the tank, including your fingers.

I think my Sebae can handle himself. He is also a notorious killer. After killing a very very aggresive domino, I think he can stand up to the humu.
If by anychance he can't would it work if I put a domino or something cheap and aggressive in that they would stop fighting?

I have a Clown Trigger that i have feed frozen squid and MAui Maui from the grocery store from day one. I have never had a problem with him not eating. I can tell you for sure if this will help your Huma though

I have eight triggerfish, and I feed them all the following, on a rotating basis :

brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, bloodworms, clam, mussels, squid, silversides, krill, prawn, formula 1, and the occasional live crab or snail I find hitch-hiking on a coral that comes into the shop

I've never had to acclimate a trigger by feeding it live food and then weaning it onto frozen.

Hope this helps...

Peace,

Chip

My niger trigger will eat (or try to) almost anything that makes its way into the tank. Doesn't matter what it is, cleaning pads, fingers, parts of an arm... Mine likes cut up bay scallops and shrimp (seafood dept at grocery) Formula one, etc.
