Well on that note, I'll have to be sure to investigate the closed loop thoroughly if I ever set up any more tanks. I may have to find a new wife if I do though, as she doesn't take kindly to the basement completely taken up with my hobby, even her laundry room.

i too was using vinegar in my kalk. but after a few weeks, i noticed that there was a large amount of "slime" formation in the tank. for the longest time, i thought it was my corals, as the slime seemed to always be around them in some form or another. it got so bad that it would actually "gum" up my filters and nearly stop the flow on the mag 9.5!
could not figure it out for the life of me. then i ran out of vinegar and was too lazy to get more. just ran plain kalk. within a few days, the slime was gone!
can anybody tell me what i had? i am not going to start vinegar again until i do!

btw - i was using 30ml per gallon of vinegar to kalk water.
