Drilling tank for overflow ????

I currently have a 58 gallon tank with 2 Lifereef overflows going into a remote (4' away) sump. being returned by a Mag 18.

I would really like to take the tank down and drill it or pick up another 58 and have it drilled (I really like the size and it fits great in the space I have for it).

I know I have to drill it on the back but where and will one overflow be enough? Do I need to install acrylic overflows or what? Any advise would really help.

Glass, and the bottom is tempered. I was thinking about taking it down, having it drilled in the back corner about 6" up from the bottom and installing an acrylic overflow.

I was in a similar situation with a 50 gallon I set up last year and I had it drilled in the back center and built an overflow box out of some scrap acrylic I had lying around. I also used an external version of Rich Durso's standpipe when I plumbed it.

I went with a 1" drain, but with your return pump, you'll have to go 1.5" for sure.

call it a lesson learned, but when I purchased my 100 glass, I now wish I had it drilled when I ordered it. But just a few days ago I ordered a 55 show and I am having the makers drill the 5 holes for me
I care not to risk having someone drill my 100 and possibly cracking it.
