I have had one for over a month now. No sign or sight of it at all. It's not dead, but amazingly enough I can't find it.

They definately are night creatures. Mine dissapeared one time for over a month. When it came back out it had split into 2 cucumbers. Reproduction by fission. I guess if people were that ugly we would reproduce the same way.

I've heard they are night dwellers, but there is no sign of movement in the sand. I had one before for about two months same story until I did some experiments(greenex and flatworms). It came out for the first time and said I don't know if I'm going to live.

Is this going to continue? Am I going to have to choose another sand cleaner?

Once the Cuck finds a good feeding spot they will not move to a new one untill the food source is exuasted. Once they have, they will move on. Not seeing your cuck for weeks at a time are normal. I found the addition of a queen conch was helpful along with the cuck. HTH
