I'm looking for a sump for my 75g RR (maybe a 20 or 20 long) that would hold my EuroReef CS6-1, carbon chamber and refug. Anyone want to make a little money?
I'll do it for free if you buy the materials and pay for the shipping....from Michigan.....
I just built my second out of 18 gallon form my 46 bowfront. It is really quite easy if you use acrylic sheets and have a tablesaw to get nice edges.
I just use a regular 45 tooth blade and 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick acrylic sheet. Leave the paper sheet on to protect the surface and the edges. This edge is usually good enought if you are going to glue in with siliscone. If you welding the acrylic you can hit with a little sand paper before to smooth the edge.
get a tank that will be big enough for what you want, throw some glass partitions in. i'd say a sump is one of the easiest things to DIY (doing mine myself right now).
It just doesn't seem that easy to me. You have to know where to place the baffles to eliminate bubbles, and to keep a constant level of water in the sump, etc. Just thought someone with more expertise would do a much better job.
Amen to that....I built my own based on research on various websites. I have now discovered some flaws in my design, mostly in the baffle/bubbles area and chemical tray.
The only saving thing for me is that I siliconed all the panels, so I may be able to remove them and re-design....but it's not like I have a second sump as a stand-by while I re-do the work...
My advice, find someone who will do it that has built MANY sumps before to avoid mistakes. I really did research it thoroughly, and made a few minor mistakes that are really going to be difficult to fix...
