question for the tang police

i have a purple tang in my 110gal and am wondering
if i can add another tang and if so what kind would do best
other fish are
2tomato clowns
2 false perc clowns
1 coral beauty
1 flame angle
2 scotter blennies
1 manadrin dragonette
2 cleaner shrimp
1fire shrimp
1 7 inch purple tang (the most beatiful fish i have)
any suggestion would be greatly appreacieted

To add another tang when you have a purple is a big risk.
Some purple tangs are reasonable fish however. Is yours?
If so try a kole tang but be prepared to take him out if things get serious.
Do the garlic regimen to avoid ich.
Add the new fish in the dark and keep the tank unlit for 24 hours.

Personally, I would lower your bioload first if you were to get another tang in there, perhaps remove some other fish.

I wouldn't do a Kole because of the coloration similarity, IMO. There is a blue eyed bristletooth that does an awesome job of diatom control, better than the Kole, maybe even as good as a Chevron. I had one in FOWLR actually with a purple tang, but I traded off these fish to move over my reef.

If you removed some fish, and had plans for any upgrades in the next years, I might even recommend the a.tenenntii......

The last time I asked to keep a PBT in my 150G, everyone calls me a troll. Whirley ask to put a tang in his 110G, and he is not? :?

BTW, I still think if I had a PBT, it would sure be a nice addition to my tank.

Any two tangs in the same tank have the possibility of squabbling. I have a Hippo Tang and a Purple Tang in my 125 gallon. They keep to their own sides of the tank now, but they did harrass each other when the Purple Tang was first introduced. The more different their colors and shape, the more likely that they will not fight, but it isn't guaranteed.

It also helps if you feed more food, as the main reason they will want to fight naturally is resource availability and competition for food. If they are both fat and happy, then they won't be as much in the mood to fight.

A friend of mine swears by removing the first one to a Quar. tank, adding the new one and re-introducing the old one a week or so later.

I think the best advice I've heard and used is that you should have 3 tangs, not just 2. I've tried this approach in 3 separate tanks, with 3 different combinations of tangs, and as soon as I added the third tang, they all chillled out on the fighting, and after time began to graze together. One setup has a PBT, PT and a Chevron - 100 gallon. The second has a YT, PBT and a Scopas - 150 gal. The third has a Desjardini, PT, and a PBT - 92 gallon corner. It's amazing to watch their attitudes change when the 3rd tang is introduced. IMHO, this is the best way to keep multiple tangs. BUT- like the others said, this may not be a good option because of the current bio load. Something to consider, though.

Purple tangs are aggressive. A 7 inches Purple tang is too mature to tolerate any other tang. If this is an option, you can remove him, trade him for two smaller tang and it would be OK. As is there is no way he will tolerate another tang or angel.
