New side-shot from last weekend. Note the chalk bass saying "hi" in the lower right corner. A Reeftec PE-1 is blowing straight at ya from the left far corner.

Just showing off some growth of this green acro. Its a brilliant coral in person. The difference in color between photgraphs has to do with Photoshop, the first is probably more accurate.

New additions this weekend from Coral City. Allen is a great guy to work with, this is my second order. I got three corals, one was a pink tip green table shape. I didn't get a good shot of that one. Its similar to the Dr Mac piece you may recall I lost, but not quite as intense. The other two are pictured here.
This one is too cool, like the pinktip, it looks like it grew off the side of a wall. Where the coral was attached to the rock isn't underneath it.. its behind it! Due to this it tabled out in a great shape. Its a light green with blue tips.. sweet!

This one is rare, a yellow astreopora with purple corallites!

Thanks Tex! Yeah, never seen one before. According to Borneman's book that color shouldn't exist! But it was IDed by him.. so go figure!

Beautiful corals newkie!
How long have you had the chalk bass? How often do you feed him?

Hey Newkie,
great looking corals! You ever have any compatiablity issues with the chalk? I have one and I've had a hard time finding much info on them. Just looking for experiences with them

Hi, the chalk bass are good reef residents. I have three. One is dominant and will occasionally chase the other two but never causes any damage. It reminds me of chiclids and their dominance heirarchy. Scott Michael wrote an article about them a few months back in AFM. He said they were one of his favorites (but everything is his favorite :D ). The only downside I can see is that they will gradually loose some of the blue. They are very active fish, very aware of whats going on, on the two non-dominant fish school together pretty often. Cool fish! Too bad I don't see them around more often. I've only seen them at my LFS once... I had to order these guys from FFE.

I hear ya that they are hard to find, mine is the only one I've ever seen in the flesh. It was in the owner of my favorite LFS's personal tank. He told me that he would sell it to me if I could catch it. It took me about two hours, but I got it. Too bad they closed down, it was a great store. :(

Beautiful tank. I have been in the business for over 10 years and really have never had a problem getting chalk bass in. I could probably get one right now if I wanted. They are Carribean, maybe ya'lls (note my dialect) fish stores do not carry much Carribean.
