I just set up a tank, The hole I drilled is in the upper right corner. It is making lots of noise as well as the water draining into the sump.

What do you guys do to keep the gurgle effect down?

Tdorey:

I think I hurt my neck looking at those pics... :D

What I did in a similar situation was to build a small internal overflow box. I then plumbed it as a sorta modified Durso Standpipe.

Check out this thread for more details as well as a couple of other ideas about quieter drain setups.

Yeah, I twisted my neck too looking at the pics

I have a valve to regulate the flow such that there is about 3 inch of water in the overflow chamber, at the point where air do not get suck in.

One reason is because water is not completely filling the flexpipe...it sorta sloshes around. Not sure how large this pipe is but you might try inserting another flexpipe inside this one to take up some of the space. The water will run along the inner flexpipe (Surface tension) and make less noise.

I use the modified durso approach (to eliminate the waterfall effect in the overflows) and then have the output of the water flows flow through a pipe that comes out under the water level in the sump - that keeps it very quiet (but my pumps and chiller are not quiet)
