We are converting a 75gal freshwater tank over to saltwater. I need a skimmer and with no sump I want to use a hang on skimmer. The PM HOT 1 seems to be rated highly but has a Rio pump. The Aqua C Remora also seems rated well and a Maxijet pump is available to replace the Rio. The other is actually a choice of two as both are in my budget range and that is the Won Brothers PS75 and PS125, both of which can be had with the Mag drive pumps.

Any of these choices noisy? Anything bad about them? I cannot seem to find much info on the Won Brothers units.

Thanks! :)

Never heard of the Won Bros., those magdrives take up some space. I think the Remora is a little overpriced. The PM HOT 1 seems to be the best I've heard about lately and I think somebody out there sells it with a maxijet for a small fee. I use the Berlin Turbo HOB and it is not bad, but the pump is kind of large. If I could do it all over again I would get the PM HOT1.

Only place I've seen the Won Bros. is at Premium Aquatics. You can email Jason and ask him about them - he's a very honest guy.

A PM HOT-1 or a Remora Pro would probably be pretty light skimming for a 75 gallon reef (I'm assuming reef here).

Although I have no experience with them, many people here have said good things about Lifereef, and they have large hang-on models. They're not cheap. Actually, for that kind of money - you could get 2 PM HOT-1s.... :D

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Actually I saw the Won Brothers skimmers while surfing their site after following the link from the thread about the mid-Sept Powerbuy which I am also thinking about. May call them tomorrow and ask.

Bucolic Buffalo-

If you are going to go with a hang on skimmer, I would go with the AquaC remora Pro. However, you SHOULD get eh Mag3 upgrade and the pre-skim box to go with it. It will definately do the job on your 75.

The AquaC Remora Pro is rated for 125g tank.

I'm not sure what your looking to spend on a new skimmer but I have a Remora Pro with Mag 3 and pre-skimmer box if your interested let me know

I have attached a picture of skimmate produced when the AquaC was on my 75g reef.

Well it pays to surf the sponsors. I have to include the Turbo Flotor 1000 Multi in my list as I came across a sale. Nearly $90 less than my usual dry goods supplier.

I would like to know how this one compares to the Won Brothers with the pump options.

The Remora Pro is a bit more than I wanted to spend and would need the pump option.

Thanks

Oops - sorry! - forgot to mention the Multi. The newer ones are available with an Ocean Runner pump. You may want to check to make sure which pump comes on the one you found on sale (if you don't want the Rio).
