I have started to feed Nori to my Tangs, I have a Naso and an Achilles in my 360, and I have a couple of questions. Do you soak Nori before putting it in the tank? Add Selco? My LFS said that adding Selco would not work because the way the seaweed is dried prevents it from absorbing it.

Also, do you use a clip? My Tangs go after it so hard that they rip it from the clip in about a minutue and then the Nori is quickly sucked up in the return. Is there a better way and I am simply too Nori challeneged to figure it out?

Thanks for any suggestions,

I have a tank mount from an old rio 1700. The part that clips it on to the side of the tank over the frame. I use that with a rubberband to attach my nori for my tangs. I also give them formula 2 flakes and they snatch up brine shrimp when I feed the tank frozen food. I don't soak the nori or anything, just roll it and attach it to the band.

I rip my nori sheets into squares, drench them in selcon/garlic extract and let them air dry. I use the squares withing a week. I rubberband a square to a finger sized piece of coral and drop it in. Use medium thickness rubberbands, I've noticed my Yellow tang eats the thin bands when they get brittle.

I rip pieces of nori and place them in a jar lid. I add garlic extract and selcon and let sit for 20 minutes or so. Contrary to what the LFS told you, the selcon and garlic is absorbed by the dry nori. I then place the pieces in the water flow.
Nori is very cheap if you buy it from an oriental grocery store.
Selects is a rip off.

Just make sure you buy the unseasoned Nori if you buy it from an Asian market (let's stay away from the word "Oriental") since some are seasoned with oils (mostly sesame) or other flavorings. Read the ingredients and make sure it just says "seaweed."

Also, the feeding grids that attach to the lettuce clips worked well for me -- for the most part the Nori stays within the grid, rather than floating all over the tank. I also soak the Nori in Selcon.

Hope this helps.
