Zoo-Med pumps suck! I gave my Power Power Sweeper another chance. First it stopped rotating....I got it to work again.....today it started making an unpleasant humming sound. The first time I took it out was because it was heating my water up a bit higher than I felt comfortable with. I am going to contact Zoo_med about this pump. I want my money back but I can't find my reciept. I only used it for about two to three weeks. I am pissed. I will use Maxi-Jets next.

Yes, Yes they do suck.

If yours worked for two weeks, all I can say is that was better than the one I had.

LOL.....did you get your money back? I will never buy another one of Zoo-Meds products again. I can't believe they still sell Hot-Rocks for reptiles.

The only powerhead worthy of the reef hobby is the Maxi-Jet.... They are thermaly protected and sealed. They have on O-Ring on the inlet which means you can run them out of the water. (If you can plumb the thing)

I have owned and used a Maxi-jet 1200 for 6yrs and it still works perfectly today.....

long live the maxi-jet

BTW - The LFS i am a part-timer at. I have never seen one returned. we have sold hundreds of them.....

anyway

hi.
I use maxijets for most of my DIY calcium reactors. However, they maybe better than the smaller Rios, but they are not failure-proof (what does?). The stainless steel shaft, for example, is not saltwater safe, and prone to corrosion, especially in low pH environment of Ca Rxtor.

I agree, They are the biggest POS out there. I had mine for about 2 weeks and it stoped rotating and got really hot.

I thought I could use it to stir my Kalk mix. That lasted 2 days before it stopped functioning all together.

I got maxi's and I haven't had a problem.

Yep, I have one that has the prefilter on it, and it was put in service in June 2001. It has stopped less than 10 times since being put in the tank. Most of the time I had to "bump it" to start it moving again. And twice I've had to scrape the encrusting coralline algae off the area around the nozzle (the coralline rubbing was what stopped the rotation). I've never had to remove it from the tank and "seriously" clean it.

The above being said, I do have to say that they provide very weak water flow. I have a PS 214, and luckily low water flow was what I wanted for a dead area in my tank (it replaced a minijet that finally seized after 5 years).

FWIW,

Kevin

My biggest complaint so far with this POS was when it was making such a loud humming noise.I thought it would harm my fish. That was it......out it came. Now I may actually still play with this thing some more just for fun. I am going to clean it up and...........ah noway..........changed my mind its in the trash in five miniutes.
