A cucumber is great to maintain the tank of excess detritis but you still need to syphon out the existing detritis for fear of escalating phosphate levels... that will lead to an algae bloom...

Tony, is this a DSB tank? I don't think you want to suction it out if it is (loss of anaerobic layer by distrubing the DSB).

just the surface needs to be sucked it will lift off easily. do it with youre next water change. try not to stir it up it will float everywhere.

yea its just crushed coral. So on my next water change ill suck the substrate good. I need to get some more detrius eating critters!

Get a Brittle Star and a Fighting Conch.....and/or maybe a Sand Sifting Star. Thats what I have in my tank.well not the Sand Sifter yet but thats next. Got a Spiny Star today.
