There's actually another link, but I can't find it. Maybe Dean can. A different chemist uses citric acid instead of muriatic acid. You can buy the c.a. from mail order. Much less caustic. That's the method I used.

Thanks Dean. It must have been an old PM. You basically mix the the powdered citric acid to make a supersaturated solution, and proceed like the muriatic acid method.

4 Dead snails and 2 hermit crab Later. I will be picking up a new tank today from petland. I will upgrade from a 75 to a 90rr aga (it's under 250 with the overflow kit) so I wont have to change much and will use the hydrochloric acid on the old 75 and then sell. I won't take the chance and this thing is holding me up. So thanks guys.

edited 5/10/07 so far it's holding up That is all I have lost Not one more since and have introduced shrimp and tang. Got the 90 anyway just waiting for the sump to start the chores.
