Hi,
I still have not chosen a filter. I was thinking can I get rid of my fluval and only use it for water flow it I have a skimmer, 20lb. or live rock, live sand, and fludized bed filter. I would get a sump but I have no room... This is for a 29 gallon. And what kind of fluidized filter would you recomend for my size tank. Thanks
John

Actually, I don't have any sort of mechanical filtration at all, only flow around the tank, but I have a sump where some of the particles settle out... for the most part I think they actually settle in the main tank!! Sometimes it takes some time...

If you have a deep sand bed (DSB) of 3-6", you can skip the filter altogether. You can still use the Fluval but without any media. The combination of the DSB and live rock (I would add another 10lbs) should be all the filtration that you need.

I agree with dgin.
Ditch the fluval filter media and use it for water movement in the tank.
A little more LR and your on your way.The DSB will take some time to kick in ,go easy with feeding and keep up with constant water changes .
