I certainly hope this thing doesn't split any time soon, or grow as fast as Minh's, but Minh's experience was the exception and not the rule correct? (I hope)

As posted earlier, I read and was told that this (5") anemone would grow at a rate where it's size would double in app. 12 months..Is this more of a typical growth rate?

minh didn't appear to be the only one that had fast growth rate, from what i gathered from that thread. :wink:

don't know where you read the info, but if you got told by your lfs-chances are it's less correct than what you'll read on this bb. do some searches here.(don't mean to be 'flameish' or condescending, but you really should have researched this better before plunging abit impetuously :wink: )

fwiw- i've seen lots of anemones double in size in less than a year-from condys to the red mediterranean(tealia?)to cerianthus, too.but look at it this way-if it doubles in size in a year, how big will it be two years from now? :wink:

The more we feed the anemone the faster they grow. I feed each of my anemone about 4-6 cm3 of either fish or shrimp or mysis every other day initially. Now they got so big and I am having problem with space, I only feed them once a week to 10 days. I have a syrine and injected the shrimp or fish with about .3 cc of Selco before feeding it to the anemone.
I also have the two anemone right under 400 W MH. I am sure if you feed them less, they will not grow as fast.

Ok, so are we saying a LTA is the best anemone then (as far as wandering, size-not getting huge, hosting probabilities, and hardier species)? Specifically a purple LTA?

I have an LTA that went from 3" across to 18-20" in less than a year and continues to grow. I have a 100 gal tank and it now takes up most of the right side. Any coral it gets near is stung and has to be moved or die. LTAs can get huge. I used to feed it 2-3 times per week, now maybe once a month and it still grows under vho's and pc's.

I just thought I'd show a picture of my Clarkii Clownfish and his Bubble Tip Anemone here. At night the anemone closes up and you just see the clown's head sticking out, like he has a sleeping bag.

Looks more comfortable than where my other fish sleep anyway.

You BTA is not well. He is bleached. You need to feed him often and he will recover.

The BTA has been the same color since I bought him. It has grown significantly since I bought him. I have been feeding it Mysis shrimp. I'm not sure if it catches anything else from the water on it's own.

I've kept a H.magnifica for almost 2 years now, and I find that if it is in favorable light and water flow, and gets fed often it will not move. I've isolated mine on a large rock, as can be seen from the pic, so it can't move unless it lets go of the rock.
