I've been in this hobby for 6 months with my 37 gallon. I had planned to convert my 75 FW planted in 2 years, but have decided to expedite it. Now looking at the beginning of next year. It's an Oceanic 75 (NOT reef ready) with the matching stand and cap. I already have an icecap vho system in it and will probably add another.

Any 75 gal sumpless reefers out there?? Any comments?? Equipment such as skimmer etc ...

Thanks!

I recently upgraded to a sumpless 75g from a 29g w/sump.The new tank is in the living room,so I wanted it to be quite and decided to try sumpless.

I'm using 4" southdown sand, about 75lb liverock and a Remora skimmer with overflow box. Also,I'm using an auto topoff system I made using a float switch in the tank and the makeup water and powerhead in a plastic container under the tank.Works great.

All in all the setup is super quite and hassle free.I also made a rock rack simliar to one shown at http://www.krob.com/aquarium/Aquascaping.htm
and that hides most of the ugly stuff that hangs on the back, plus makes aquascaping a breeze.

I had many tanks setup and wanted to try a sumpless one. I couldn't stand it. Having a sump made just about everything easier so I added one within a months time I think.

I've seen many tanks done without sumps. Just not the way to go for me though.

I had a 75 w/o a sump for about 1 1/2 yrs and couln't stand it in retrospect. I ran canister filters, powerheads etc. and just kept adding more equip as the tank and my interests changed (fo>sps). It just kept getting cluttered with more STUFF and wires and and and and....Anyway i ended up with a CPR cyclone skimmer sump/overflow combo and solved all of my clutter/filter changing/junk in the tank problems. JMHO.

a buddie of mine has a sumpless 75g. He runs 2 remoras on it, 2'' sandbed, 120lbs LR, and 4 MJ 1200s. There is a lot in the tank but it is very succesful.

I just ordered a 75g w/ overflow. At this point i'm just gonna keep the water below the overflow and run a remora and a Prism on it. I've got extra powerheads too. (combining 55g and 30g) I'll eventually add a sump But for now I'm trying to save money for my 300g FOWLR :D

So if you don't mind a lot of clutter than go ahead. But I'm tired of being limited by not having an overflow.

i have a 75 sumpless for about a year now upgraded from a 38 sumpless. i actually like it seems very easy to care for. i run 3 pwr heads, prizm skimmer, emporer 400 (no filters). also do weekly water changes about 10% and everything seems to run fine never had any problems. also have 4" sb (mixed sands) and about 110 lbs lr

i recently switched fronm a sumpless 55 to a 75 with a sump and let me tell you you would have to brandish a firearm to get me to give up my sump now. makes like cleaner and simpler. if the tank is empty get some bulkheads put in the back glass and just cap them for now. in two weeks when you decide you should have gone with a sump it won't be so huge a task to put one in. just my .02
