Did anyone check out Erics'response to Julian Sprungs trashing of Mr. Bornemans' idea that tiny crabs are whats behind the Elegant coral disease issue? In this months issue of FAMA Mr. Borneman blasts Julian for perscibing presciptions without peer review! This mean spirited pounce on on Sprung was quite a read.check it out for yourself!for yourself!

I do pose some difficult questions, dont I?

-No, not really. The question(?) you have posted here should be addressed to Eric Bornemans forum like he has asked you to do several times now.

too bad so few people even attempt to play with me?

-You may notice that there are alot less now than there used to be.

Is the truth that scarry?

-What truth?

I also hold the record for the longest thread on this board},

-No you don't, the longest thread on this board was in the sump and deals with Christianity.

This months issue under Spungs' Reef notes. Keep in mind that a few months ago sprung dismissed Bornemans idea that Gaul crabs were to blame. This is Eric's attempt to get back at Sprung . SPC..... Mr Borneman deleted out my questions on Reef Central so what is to keep him from doing the same in his forum ? Whats wrong with here? For example ;If the Fiji coral ban comes to pass and 80 % of live coral imports stop, does Eric feel the industry will hold him personally responsible? Does Mr.Borneman feel that his greatly over blown estimates in the Fiji coral export report, caused CITES alarm? and forced CITES to question the Fiji Gov. numbers? Second, does one Adult bump head parrot fish eat more live coral then the hobby takes ?

Wow, for someone who apparently "thinks" they know everything you would think they would know that it is a "G-a-l-l" crab that is in question here. FWIW, these are small almost shrimp-like creatures from the group known as cryptochirids that bore into corals to make a home and can live either commensal or parasitic lifestyles. As far as whether or not the Catalaphyllia problem is related to these crabs or if secondary infections are caused by the crabs I don't believe has ever been determined, but there is some positive correlation to both from just basic observations. Heck, they both may be correct if the crab were to cause the infection, ie. you could either remove the crab as a source of irritation or treat the possible secondary infection until the coral regains strength. Here are some "borrowed" pictures from the "rogues gallery":

I think you are giving yourself WAY too much credit to think that somehow one that is working on his PhD in coral disease etiology would have any fear of what you believe to be the "scary truth". I think most who read this board would be glad if you could figure out the "truth" about anything. Heck it would be a refresher if you just knew how to spell the subject matter of what you are attempting to enlighten us with.

-Kalk, I was not aware of this, I can't imagine that he deleted your questions because of the subject matter, IMO it was most likely due to other factors. Why don't you give it another shot, he has already given you a couple of invitations to do so.

Kalk,

I just picked up the September FAMA and there is no Reef Notes. I realize Kalk irritates a lot of people on this bb and I think it would be better if he toned down rhetoric, but I think people need to hear from both sides of the issues.

I will go on record and say I dropped off the Breeder's Registery and stayed away from on-line communitys and chat rooms for 4-5 years because I got fed up with the venom Eric Boreman was spewing out. Some of his attacks were legendary, and woe be the newbie that asked a dumb question. A lot of people were afraid to make comments in those days. I certainly hope Mr. Borneman has mellowed out as he gains success and maturity. He is an intelligent guy and has made a great contribution to the hobby. I got a feeling some of those old BR threads are still around if anyone is interested.

The use of word "GAUL" was a pun. My questions are quite fair, unpopular? Yes this I understand.... but this whole hobby is about to pay for the lack of "peer" review in Mr. Bornemans' work..................I am only the messenger ....

The use of word "GAUL" was a pun.

What kind of pun would that be since "Gaul" is nothing more than an ancient place/location/destination from what is now France during Roman times? Funny that you continued to spell it wrong throughout your post if it was meant as a pun. If you meant to use it as "he has a lot of gall" it is spelled the same way g-a-l-l so it would be hard to make a pun out of it, eh?

My questions are quite fair, unpopular? Yes this I understand.... but this whole hobby is about to pay for the lack of "peer" review in Mr. Bornemans' work..................I am only the messenger ....

What questions would those be? So far you have spewed the usual BS, but I do not see a valid question in any of your posts. Ah yes, the hobby is going to pay for his work...what work would that be? So far you have been able to give some numbers he used in a Coral List post 3 years ago. The numbers he used came from CITES and Fijis own documents, not the other way around. I believe he has already stated here that those numbers were wrong so what numbers are you referring to? When did he do a survey of Fiji for Traffic or CITES? His survey, if being used, should be available at www.traffic.org I can find no such survey. Is it from when he did a survey of the Spermonde Archipelago off of Sulawesi, hmmm, or maybe it was from his survey of Dominica? Oh wait, neither of those places has the slightest bit to do with Fiji and its documentation problems with CITES. And wow, we have the meeting at Lami where a supposed collection ban was imposed. It is quite odd that the Fiji government keeps records of the minutes of meetings and this never shows up anywere in the minutes. There was much talk of closing down a fishery used for food at that particular meeting, maybe that is it? Or maybe it was when they even bothered to record in the minutes the discussion of a particular government official that seemed to be abusing the government vehicle for personal use? Please do inform us of these great sources you have that allows you to be the "messenger"... These must be the same sources that allowed you to announce on the 12th of August that Fiji was ending exports of Coral and LR, but on the 25th you have a thread asking MaryHM if she ever received a fax...funny that she didn't....hey maybe because it was never even discussed at the meeting on the 15th? Doinnnngggggg

Here are the Fijian governments news briefs since the imaginary coral ban took place on the 15th. Funny how not a single word of them ending one of their largest exports never made any appearance when other much more benign things did.

From the 15th:
http://www.fiji.gov.fj/news/N2002_08/N2002_08_15.shtml

From the 16th:
http://www.fiji.gov.fj/news/N2002_08/N2002_08_16.shtml

Hey maybe they are a bit slow and it came out later...from the 17th to the 26th:
http://www.fiji.gov.fj/news/N2002_08/N2002_08_26.shtml

Hmmm....not in the minutes from the meetings, not in the government news, and not in any press release....pretty strange indeed!
