I have a Ritteri Anemone that I got 3 weeks ago. He's looking happy and fat.
The only thing..out of all places he can be in the tank. He choose the front, left side of the tank glass.

There anyway to move him or maybe make him want to move someplace else?

If anything.
I figured he'd be up toward the top portion of the tank.

Hi Jeff,

I have a Ritteri (over a year), so perhaps I can help you out. Here is a picture of my tank, set up SPECIFICALLY for this anemone:

DSCF2379.jpg

The reason your anemone is where it is - it seeked the place it feels the most "at home." They want high light and high current. Of course that's the front top of your tank glass.

Unless you have 400w metal halide lighting and lots of COVERED/SAFE water circulation - your anemone may wander and wander into a pump where it will be chewed to bits.

What is your tank setup like?

It is also a good idea to feed this anemone.

Cheers
James

I have a 75 G Tank, an RIO1400 power head close to where he's at.
Plus VHO Lighting with a Remora Pro Skimmer.
The thing is. He never has moved..except for a few inches to the side of the glass.
I also feed him Silversides, every other day.

Is his current location in direct path of high current? If yes, redirect the powerheads and leave his current spot low flow, he will likely move again.

Or do what I would do, peel him off and set him where you want him to be. After he begans to attach to the rockworks, direct a good flow of water towards him.

That's how they were sold starting from the wholesale to LFS to you.

Working with a seemingly easy corner first. Then slowly work your fingers between the anemone base and the glass until you got it detached from the glass.

This, however, only work when the anemone is attached on flat surface such as glass. If the anemone is attached onto LR, it will be very hard to get them off without injuring them.

danmhippo is correct on the removal process

i have one in my tank now for over 10 years
he does not like high current flow
but does like good lighting

i also just introduced a rose to the same tank going on 2 years
they seem to get along just fine side by side
my clown fish go from one to the other like it was a freeway

Jav-
What is your tank setup and environment like? I'm curious because I've read that Ritteri are extremely unlikely to survive over a year in aquariums...and would like to learn how you got yours to live. I just got one a few days ago and it is wilting away already.

Please help! 8O

None of the anemone like a power head point directly at him from close range, but H. magnifica certainly like high flow. I have about 2000 g/hr move across my Ritteri, right under my 400 W MH.
Jav's anemone is certainly unusual, very unusual. H. magnifica and E. quadricolor will sting each other if they are touch. That is for sure. I have two in close procimity and have to move the injured BTA after it was stung by my Ritteri.
BTA like lower light that Ritteri.

Jav,
Is it possible that you have two morphs of the same species?
I know that they are very different from each other if you look at them in real life, but it is possible to mistake one specie with the other one.

BTW, I understand that Jeff's anemone have passed on (from another thread)

Minh,
My magnifica is now splitting. I just noticed it today, it looks like two anenome's with their "feet" stuck together. The thing that made me notice was the anemone had dramatically "shrunk up" and looked tightly packed together. I'm sure after the division, it will open back up normally.

Leland,
How long have you have the H. magnifica? I also have my Ritteri divided the first week in my tank.
My anemone did not contract but fully expanded even as it splitted. I fist notice the split when I see rock though the mouth of the anemone. Then one side of the anemone split apart forms a 'C' shape anemone without a mouth. Then the two end of the 'C' moved apart and rip the anemone in two. The two end of the newly splitted 'C' shape anemone the rejoined each other and form two new Ritteri anemone. My anemone was not able to completely separate. i have to loop a rubber band around the part that did not come apart and put tension on it. This completes the split.
All in all, it was a strange process. I have BTA splitted also. What I saw there is the anemone contracted and then two smaller anemones appear in place of one.

Leland,

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get some pictures of your H. magnifica splitting. If you don't have a camera, I'd be willing to bet that a "reefs.org junkie" near you can come over and get the photo.

I think my new ritteri is splitting too. It looks like it has 2 mouths and that is my first guess. Please advise if I am insane for thinking such. Will attach picture soon
