i keep hereing about hamilton ice cap and pfo ballasts. how does csl halide ballasts stack up against these? are csl ballasts a good quality ballast. (custom sea life)
I will bite. I have seen a couple of CSL halide hoods in operation. They look to be good quality. I am sure that they are using a mag ballast like hamilton and PFO, so there should be little difference there. They do not produce their own bulbs, so those are also off the shelf items and can be assumed to be as good as any others. Their hoods are always of good quality.
So IMO they are just fine for a ballast "re-packager"
i actually have 4 - 400 watt 10ks over my new tank and i,m really impressed with the ballast and the color of the bulbs. the bulbs have no name on them other than 10000k, no other identification. who makes these bulbs?
The other day I opened up my CSL ballast to see what was inside -- and what did I see? A Magnetek "core and coil" ballast (I think the other manufacturer commonly seen is Advance) and power supply. I'm willing to bet that most traditional ballasts (non electronic or HQI) are very similar.
