Hi,
I have a 50 gal tank. 48 long x 20 deep x 12.5 wide.
I'd like to keep a varity of mushrooms & leathers & perhaps one or two anemones.
What kind of light do you think I will need.
I was thinking two 110w VHO would be good enought since my tank is not so deep.
surely there will be many opinions & I thank you for your thoughts.

I would do much more but this would do for some leathers and mushrooms. Anemones arnt for low lighting situation. I wouldnt even consider an anemone untill your more experenced, at least one year in reefs.

Under this lighting I would stick to mushrooms, zooanthids, and not too much else.

If I am not mistaken there are a few Anenomes that are low light if you check it out you might be able to find a few for your tank.

I agree that you should stay away from anemones until you have a stable tank(and IMO stable is up and running for at least 6 months) and have read up on anemones thoroughly. Do some searches on anemones here and then think of questions to ask before you run out and get one.

And as far as lighting goes the more the better. I would suggest 4 110 watt or 4 95 watt VHOs. And any low light anemone you can get,you don't want.

I waited 3 months on my 105 before I added my Rose BTA. However that was not my first tank and the Rose was not my first anemone. I waited 3 months because I wanted to make sure the tank was stable and I was not going to have any problems.

The rose does not require as much light as many other anemones and I had done quite a bit of reading and asking of advice from other reef keepers before making my decision to keep one.

Anemones are one of the most beautiful and captivating animals for your reef.. Most everyone who gets into the hobie "including myself" dreams of having a beautiful anemone with clowns playing inisde it's protective stinging tenticles.

I don't think they are as hard to keep as many preach. I have had great sucess with mine. My seabae "Bob" is about 2 feet across and has taken over 1/2 of my 120g reef tank! Just make sure you know how to care for them before you get one. They will live longer than you will if cared for properly!
