What is "retrofit"?

What does it mean when it says "retrofit"(ballasts). Can you run the lights with only the ballast.(what more does retrofit give?)
sorry if these questions are dumb but i want to do my research and know what im buying.

That would be to hack at, change out, swap out, components.

If I buy A VHO ballast(icecap) it should come with all the parts i need to run the bulbs right?
End caps etc.. Or do you nedd to buy the ballast and then some more suff?

Retro's are for installing yourself. If it's not a retrofit it's in a hood. The retro gives you all the components to install and run it, just doesn't give you the pretty, fan cooled box to put it in. Kind of DIY but easier.

you have to see what the retrofit contains. My retro power compacts included bulbs, endcaps, power supply cord, ballast, reflector, ect.

basically mine came with everything just plug and play took me 10 mins to install in my canopy. click on my signature and there is a pic of my retro lighting at the website.

The IceCap ballast does not come with endcaps. When I bought mine it didn't even come with a plug. Most places will sell it as a "package" though.
