I've looked around and there seem to be 2 different ways to go about doing the above.
1. cutting it in half like you would a tree and securing the "head" via netting, glue, etc...
2. slicing them like you would a pie...

it seems to me like the first is the best practice because it is more like this in nature when they move around and "leave" pieces of themselves that mature. any other views would be most helpful

thanks

Well just about any piece you hack of the mushroom has a good chance of growing into another one.

My prefered technique it to simply clip a bit of the edge - I guess like taking a bite out of a pie.

put shroom and aquarium water in blender on slow speed, submerge rock in soup. Leave for a little while. Then place rock in aquarium. If you want shrooms everywhere, turn off the filters/skimmers for a while and just dump in the shroom soup. sereous, just ask Chucker.

Infact, you try and kill one of the little guys. Hard as nails mate, hard as nails. Were talking nuking with Kalkpaste here.

If your really carefull you can just about manage to peel them off like stickers. Then spread them about, and theyll pretty much populate off from that.

I know a guy who owned a fish store and did what Mouse suggested all the time. It worked for him but I haven't tried it.

Nother trick that's useful. Put a small rock in the middle/next to the shrooms you want to prop. Point a nearby powerhead directly at the shroom and it will start to move a bit (with luck, onto or across the rock you've placed). As it moves it'll leave bits of it's pedal disc behind, which will each grow into a new shroom.

I usually just put them in the tank and they do the rest!

Pulling and cutting both work. They are very resilient creatures. Many regret making so many because they tend to grow out of control.

thanks for all the suggestions. I think i'm going to go with the pulling them one, it seems the easiest next to just letting them be. i don't think i have the nerve to blend one of the poor little guys up, seems cruel and inhumane !!! who ever was the first to try that must have been really out there !!

lol or just happened to watch one get "blended" up by a powerhead and saw good results.

thanks again

Blending does work then? Well that's interesting - I've been pondering doing just that for a few years. Tonight I will be making a shake of blended green and blue mushrooms.
