I have two Percula clown fish in my reef tank. They are non aggressive to all other tank inhabitants except for my arm. When I clean the tank, do regular maintenance, ect. the clown fish attack me. They started out with a nip hear or there, but know it is every time I stick my arm in the tank. They both ram\bite repeatedly on any part of my hand\arm that is in the tank. Any suggestions on what to do would be a big help. Thanks

I'd just laugh at the situation. It doesn't hurt much, does it? A damsel of mine does the same thing. I think its funny.

My maroon clown does that, and in my case it does hurt a bit (I sound like a sissy, don't I?) but it more scares the crap out of me. I chase him back, but it doesn't seem to help.

I guess I will just take it like a man then.. The Ice cap fan will bolt to the outside of the light fixture but it runs on DC power. The fan in my light now runs off A/C power and turns on with the lights. I might just keep it for the next tank. Does Icecap make an A/C fan? Thanks Monkeyboy

He He , that sounds familar. My mated pair chew on me all the time too. esmithiii, don't be to hard on yourself, mine hurt too. Espesially when they grap onto one of the hairs on my arm. OUUCCHH. I can cup my hand in the tank, and sometimes think I could just pull him out if I wanted to. My tang is pretty playful to, everytime I get near the tank he puts his face right up to mine. Pretty cool. He is the only tang I have ever had to do this. Oh yea, the peppermint shrimp like to get on the arm every now and then also. I think that is there way of showing affection.

My damsels do the same thing....

I also remember snorkeling in Fiji and this sebae clown would not let me get within 5 feet of its anemone. It was the biggest sebae I have ever seen but also the ugliest....it had this huge knot on its forehead.

Let me tell you about my tomato clown. He bit me every time I put my arm in the tank...almost drew blood a couple of times. Anyway, one day he went after my arm as usual, I yanked it out, and he came sailing out of the tank after it. He hit the floor, I scooped him up and put him into a tank that I don't reach into as often, and we have been peacefully coexisting ever since.

My clowns both attack my arm, cleaning pad and just abount anything I put in the tank. Once when trying to feed a plate and keep the clowns at bay I put in the blue handle side of the scrubber. They didn't like the blue. The white end they would go after. I tried it repeatedly with the same result. MSO is an offshore fisherman and swears color has big influence on fish aggresivness. Maybe a big blue glove would make them shake in their litlle clown boots. HaHa

Too funny, My clows do the same thing along with with my cleaner shrimp.. That guy travels up and down my arm and never lets me get anything done. But yeah my Clowns do it if I go near Their Aveopora that believe to be an Anemone... I was always told that the clown would kill off the aveopra but after the first week or two the Aveopora doesnt seem to mind them at all !

My clowns "I have a two spawning pair, Tomato, and Maroon" don't bother me.. They do pay close attention but don't venture out for a attack. I don't stick my hand in the tank very often either. I use a magnet for general cleaning and once every few months or so razor the coraline.

My Tangs Two yellow, one purple love to get in my face and follow me around when I come up to the tank to look. It is funny as soon as I enter the room they swim infront of the glass watching me. If I walk back and forth they follow me. This is true for both of my systems. I do have one tank that has a yellow tang that I don't feed "he eats the algae that grows in the tank" and he runs and hides as soon as I enter the room. I guess the others know who feeds them!

My tomato clown has drawn blood twice. She doesn't like my hands near her anemones. My L.ambionesis likes to hop on and clean my dead skin.
