Hi Folks,

Here is a quicktime movie of the MASS CORAL SPAWN at the Flower Garden Banks:

http://www.reefpix.org/coralspawn/movies/DSCN3059.MOV

The file is about 1.5 megs, so be prepared for the download - but it's worth it!

You can see a couple of different polychaete spawns. They are the "little wormy things" that are corkscrewing all over the place.

Enjoy!

You think that was a mess eh - well you weren't the one that was swimmin' in it! I got those suckers in my wetsuit!

Every year, 8 days after the full moon in August/September, the corals spawn at the Flower Garden Banks ~100 miles off of the coast of Texas. It is an amazing event and one I felt very lucky to be a part of. Eric Borneman and Larry Jackson were there as well - but they were diving air and I was diving Nitrox - so I got to see more spawning...:P

The movie is so short because I didn't want to fill up my memory card and not have room for some still photos.

Still photos are here:
