I just converted to a DSB. I followed numerous threads on here to complete this task. Yes, It was a pain. Best advice was to have plenty of beer around.

My astreas are having a hard time getting their footing on the new sand. They just seem to grab lots of sand and then flip on their sides. Will this get better or should I move them to the rocks? Will I have to babysit them for the rest of their days?

Thanks!

Its gonna be a hard life for your snails from now on. If you don't flip them, they die. If they fall under a rock and you can't reach them you have to sit there and watch them die. Ive been told trochus snail can flip themselves back up but I don't have any yet so I dont know for sure.

My experience is that certain varieties of snails fare better than others. Also, the Darwin effect is pronounced: some will be able to get around, others won't. The strong will survive.

My wife is very used to hearing me say "hold on a sec, i've got to rescue a snail." i keep a plastic stick handy to flip them over.

Snails falling over, snails stuck in rocks, snails knocking over my corral, rescuing snails with a stick, remind me again why we keep snails in the first place.
