I'm thinking about adding at least one, or possibly 2 yellowtail damsels to my tank as my last fish additions. Are damsels like clownfish, that if I select two small ones, they will get along, or will they fight with one another? Thanks is 38 Gallons, other inhabitants are 1 Flame Hawk, 2 False Percs, 1 six line wrasse, all of which I think would co-exist with the yellowtails and not be overly harrassed by them.

Since I'm sure its going to be asked, the reason I'd like 1 or 2 damsel's is that they are a nice blue yellow fish and I'd like something of that color for my tank. The only other option that fits in my tank I think is a Royal Gramma, but I had one before and it was always hiding in the rocks, not really visible. Other than that, a beautiful fish, but I'd like something a little bolder.

Thanks,

-Eric

Damsels are not known for getting along with other fish. They dig bunkers and trenches and harrass other fish. They're also tough to get out of a tank.

I don't recommend them. The gramma is A LOT better option!

I have a yellow tail and a ble damsel. They are the smallest fish in the tank and give me no problems. I know they don't all act this way.

Damsels are very aggressive fish, and will pick on your other fish. UNLESS, you have a lot of them, and then they'll fight with each other instead. I'm also a big fan of the yellow tail damsel (my first saltwater fish!) and have 4 in my 125 reef. They each have a little area staked out, and they all chase each other around periodically, as does the domino and 3 stripe damsel (need to add more of them as well). Damsel generalities according to me: 1 is bad for your other fish, 2 is bad for the damsels, 3 is getting there, 4 or more is good.

Thanks for all the help guys. I definitely won't get two, if I get any it will be one. I think I should be OK since I'd get a small one and it would be the last fish introduced and all my other fish are semi-agressive and should be able to take care of each other.

Or I'll give in and try a Royal Gramma again... ah decisions, decisions...
