Ok....and who are you going to lash out at? No one has taken responsibility / claimed they did it yet (no credible claims anyhow)...

Liquid,

This act is so horrific, that I seriously doubt any terrorist has the nerve to claim credit. Any terrorist on the "Credible List" is probably smart enough to hunker down, because there is going to be a serious price to pay.

I almost laughed when I read Hamas' statement that they were not responsible for the terrorist act and "blame U.S. Policy". So.......it's our fault? I don't think anyone will ever claim responsibility for this act...it's not in their best interest considering that the leaders of all countries in the mid-east are as appalled as we are. Besides, I think our government will be able to find out who did this without any admissions of guilt.

Not that I am taking sides, but I do sometimes play devil's advocate:

Has anyone stopped to consider that the reason no terrorist group has claimed responsibility is because perhaps no terrorist group was responsible?

Why is it first instinct to look outside the US for a purpetrator? Could it not be possible that the terrorism came from within the US? It is natural instinct to lay blame on everyone else but one's self.

Look at the Oklahoma bombing? Everyone quickly blamed terrorist organiaztions, including Palestinian, the Hamas and even Bin Ladin. Turns out it was a couple militant Ameriacans who were solely responsible!

It is generally known that US pilots are instructed to ground their planes if hijacked and instructed to hit civilian targets. Why then did three of four planes hit their intended targets? Some would speculate that they were operated by skilled terrorists, capable of flying commercial aircraft. I tend to agree, but why did the FAA receive no hijacking alert from the onboard transponders from any of the onboard crew on any of the flights?

Just some food for thought?

While I'd like to agree with canadawest, there's just too much info. that points to terrorism.

1. Most of the crew on those planes were dead before they had a chance to notify anyone.
2. Oklahoma City was a terrorist act. If McVeigh was not a terrorist, who is? What defines a terrorist?
3. The U.S. had inside info. that a terrorist attack was coming from Bin Lauden's group, they just didn't know where or when....that mystery has been solved.
4. I don't think any American, even McVeigh would have the b*lls to wage such a large scale attack on their own country...it just doesn't seem plausible.
5. Terrorist groups are large, organized and usually very well funded (where do you think most of the guns/ammunition comes from?)....doesn't take much to learn how to fly a plane when you have that kind of backing and determination.

amcarrig you make good points but:

1. How could you possibly know that "most of the crew on those planes were dead" Nobody knows that information for sure yet, let alone John Q Public
2. I did not say it wasn't a "terrorist act" the point I was making is that it may not be an assumed terrorist group, such as the PLO, Hamas, Bin Laden, etc.
3. The US intelligence probably has info on DOZENS of proposed terrorist attacks, many of which they thwart in advance. Just because they had some info on a Bin Laden conspiracy, doesn't mean the attacks yesterday were related.
4. This is the single most reason why an American COULD pull off such and event. The rest of the country is so arrogant (or ignorant) to believe that it "could never happen" that it would make it that much easier for a national to organize and complete. While everyone is looking out the windows at the organized terrorist groups and scrutinizing Middle-Eastern people, nobody has been watching what's going on inside the house!
5. I have no doubt that skilled individuals , capable of flying a commercial jetliner, exist within organized terrorist groups. (As I mentioned in my original post)

All evidence points outside of the country. I don't think it's internal for the following reasons:

1. Put together all of the nuts and then take 12 and send them on a suicide mission. How many are left? How many more can you expect to recruit this year. Answer=0. Who's left to carry out the rest of the plan?

2. If you hate and dispise the government, and you want to raise awareness and gain grassroots support you bomb: a. the government. b. a bunch of grassroots people c. both. Doesn't make sense. If you live overseas and are trying to gain support, then c makes sense.
