I think it was in MCRA that I red that many of the snails that we add to our tank (trochus, astrea, turbo...) can and will reproduce in "large" tanks. Now what is a large tank? Has anyone had any valid snail reproduction in their aquarium? I've never heard of this happening but apparently they have.

I haven't seen any turbo reproduce, but I have a bunch, I mean a bunch of cerite snail reproduce and some other unknown type of snails that probably hitch hiked in from some corals and rocks. Some of the smaller snails traveled to the sump and had gotten blown back up. Survived the trip thanks to their hard shell, but got stuck in the return nozzle that I have to pry open to free them out everyweek.

Yes, I have seen it. Not in one in my aquarium, but at one of the local stores. The owner keeps 4 very large tanks for coral and maintains them as though they were on display ond not for sale. It is not uncommon for him to have peices for two or even three months before selling them. Anyhow, the tanks measure about 7 X 2 1/2 X 2. You will have to do the math.

I've got baby snails all the time in my tanks. I don't know what type of snails they are though. My tanks are only 55 gallon. Most of the babies are eaten by the fish. One tank has babies all over the sides and rocks.

I must be lucky because I have dozens of baby tiger trochus in my 90. They have been growing for a few months and are now the size of a tic-tac.

Trochids have a short, non-feeding, larval stage and reproduce readily in the home aquarium. I've got little tigers cruising the glass in both my 90 and my 29.

I have about a hundred of unidentified snails. They are little (2-4 mm) in size. mostly beige with a brownish swirl. they cover the glass at night. I also have just recently seen a black and white snail with a cone shaped shell give birth on the glass. I am sure the snails are reproducing all the time. it actually is kind of a pain, I have to remove them from the powerhead intakes.

P.S.
I have a 55+ with no sump, about 95# of live rock. plenty of culerpa (feather).
I don't think you need a large tank for snail babies...

I think mines are reproducing....when they're in front of the glass i look closely and i see little white coneshells babies attatched underneath the shell near the tissue and i have a 40g so i think the size of the tank is irrelevant...

The only snails I have reproducing are the Stomatella Varia snails. The rest wont reproduce for me. From what Ive read people that skim heavily wont be able to rear snails as the larvea are skimmed out. I think this is why large aquaria are suggested for breeding snails.

I had 4 turbo snails in a 37g that reproduced to a couple hundred. Anyways, when I moved everything to a 46g, only a few survived. not sure why? I was suprised to see baby snails too.

I have a 55 gallon and have tons of baby cerrith snails riding the bottoms of astrea and turbo snail shells. I also have hundreds of the small nocturnal hitchikers breeding also.

I had my margarita snails reproduce. Only had it happen once, whole tank clouded up from them. Two months later I started to noticed all these tiny baby margaritas!

I've had strombus snails reproduce in my 20g minireef...now that I have moved them all into a newer 75g I have seen some more little guys running around but not sure if they were just hiding out in the rocks I moved from the old tank. I have also seen what I think are a few baby stomatella snails in my 75g.
