well they've done it now. my maroons have spawned and i have bright orange eggs growing on a piece of live rock in a private tank and im expecting to have the real work begin. my biggest concern is what to feed the fry i live in michigan so wild plankton is out of the question(thats what all the books say to do is just go and catch all the plankton i need) is there any store bought food i can use to feed newborn maroon clowns?

My advice is to get the book "clownfishes" by joyce wilkerson. Best reference out there.

You'll need to culture phytoplankton to feed to the rotifers you will also be culturing tro feed to the fry. The fry should be in a separate 10 gallon to grow out. You will then need to hatch Brine shrimp to feed to the juviniles.

Basically, get the book, then decide if it's worth all the work (it is) and then get started. Let this batch of clowns go. THey should spawn every other week or so.
Good Luck!

What part of Mich?

Tropicorium sells live rotifers and Green water
so you could pick it up there.
They also raise there own fry so they might be some help

My Maroons spawn every other week it seems like to I just have not tried at this point to raise the fry

Congraduations, Mountain Corals 801-782-7937 in Ogden Utah sells "Velvet Green" a phyto plankton and Rotifers. They ship 2 day priority mail and their stuff has always arived in good shape. If your trying to raise this batch out your going to want to get at least 3 times as much of the phyto plankton as you get rotifers. a quart of rotifers and 3 quarts of phyto will be enough to get you started for this spawn although it'll cost you a little in shipping. Or as others have suggested let this spawn go and be ready for the next one. usually they'll just keep on spawning every couple of wks but my Maroons got messed up with water temp changes this winter and quit spawning and have been very intermittant since them.

Your algaae cultures will grow better if you do NOT use RO water. keeping your algaae and rotifer cultures going will be the first part of the challenge, good luck
