Schroom,

Rob Toonen had a great post a while back on another site (see:Blue Linkia)

It is very important that they are acclimated properly. Not only by you but every step of the way (collector, wholesaler, retailer).

Linkia laevigata is an easy to keep animal in a mature reef tank if you get a healthy one and if you acclimated them properly. Be sure you get a healthy one and drip acclimated them (about 4+ hr). They should do fine in a mature tank.

Just wanted to know if anyone out there has had luck with keeping the blue starfish or are they something to stay away from?

I assume that you are talking about the Blue Linkia Seastar (Linkia laevigata). These guys have trouble during capture and shipment. If they do survive, they can do well. Make sure it doesn't have any white or dark spots or holes and if it is flipped over, it should be able to right itself. I've heard that seastars of the Fromia species have much better survival rates in captivity.

I just got my first blue starfish two days ago. He looks great! Only thing is he seems to slowly be moving between the rocks. Soon, I probably won't be able to see him. Maybe he'll change his mind or at least pop up every once in a while like my horseshoe crab. Good luck.

Thanks for all the input. and for the link to Reef Central. I did acclimate the linkia's for five hours. So far they are doing o.k. I purchased two from captive bred corals.
