Don't do anything. Leave them, and they will be food for something. The parents will eat them as well. I feed them to my Betta.

So, did these come from a mollie used to cycle the tank? If not, and it's an established tank, leave them for food. If so....... then shame, shame.

been checking water paremeters everyday, nothing bad, all good (atleast for cylce stage)
only have 2 other mollies who haven't botherd them at all! no other fish. they absolutely love the 300 lbs. of rock! i don't think they all came out at once, because the pregnant one still looks pregnant!

Next time maybe listen to the advice given here and ignore the LFS advice, that is if their the ones who told you to cycle with fish. Maybe they'll buy them from you.

Shame on what?

I do not think just because someone feels differently than you that you think You are right and they are wrong.

I still have the two mollies that help cycle my tank in my reef and they are a great asset. They provide food n a constant basis for all the inhabitants.

What next, Oh my God you cruel bastard don't you know if you cycle with live rock much of the LIFE, being little ALIVE animals are going to die, YOU HEARTLESS BASTARD.

Seriously where does it all end, how many bristle worms and small brittle stars dying= one mollie usually not dying?

Read a little closer 'holic. Cycling not only with fish but with 300 lbs. of LR. Also, just a few days ago, he asked about everyone's favorite fish for cycling a tank and I believe it was close, if not unanimous, to not use one. Use LR or LS or whatever. No need to torture a fish even if you don't kill it. My post was nothing more or less than a reminder of the facts and how to maybe avoid this problem in the future.
Alex, your old buddy Jake didn't give you this advice did he? Just checking.

This is my point you are still killing something, what is the difference, the fish is cute?

I remember his previous post about cycling, if you remember I did'nt get in line and go with the crowd there either.

Where on the list of animals to kill is it politicaly correct to do so?

Personally I feel this argument has gone back and forth on the boards enough that I won't prolong it. Fish OK, yours and others opinion. Fish not OK, my and others opinion. That's the way it is. If I want to say shame for going against the consensus after getting multiple answers to the contrary, I will and you can bet I will continue to do so. If you want to stir the pot by using words out of context like "bastard" and "cruel" and "heartless" to make your point, then do so. And if it makes you feel any better:

Your right Dave. I, and everyone else who responded negatively to his fish-cycling- the-tank post are wrong. Happy now?

I am proud to be the founder (can I claim that office) of the UPS (Unified Pontification Society).

By the way, I cycle with fish as well, and probably wouldn't do so anymore since the advent of the berlin system (actually, now when a friend has a new tank, I just give him a bunch of substrate and rock so that they can be ready to go ASAP), but old habits die hard, and if it was a totally new system, I would probably go with fish because of that.

My way or the highway, so you're booted.

Just kidding

, actually, with the logic there, it's probably better to use fish, because they can survive the cycle, while inverts most likely will not, such as brittlestars, which are IME trying to bring them back from Hawaii, very sensitive to pH and other factors.

Fishaholic: You know I have been thinking of the countless lives of bristle worms, baby snails, feather dusters and other animals that have been killed by the hands of aquariasts cycling their tanks with LR!!
icon_smile.gif

If you think about it, its no worse than cycling with a fish. I guess people just care about stuff they can see or what looks cute...heh

AAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thought of all those little itty bitty brittlestars dying.
icon_redface.gif
I just can't take it!!!!!!! Such devotion to them, and their little invertebrate relatives.....

Save brittlestars (and random invertebrates)...
USE FISH!!!!!!!!!

It is a matter of perspective.

I happen to be a fan of the little critters on rock, but for the long term happiness of the majority of those critters or fish, some must be sacrificed. Rock-critter or fish? That is the question. The answer will often be different but each has its merits under certain conditions.

Seriously folks (I hope this doesn't get me flamed) one thing I have noticed on this board is the "one way to do things" mentality. There are other points of view, but I think at times people are scared to say anything or share their experiences because they are not doing the current 'thing' or don't know what the current 'thing' is.

You know what this is what I like about reefs.org. That we have people that show there is more than one way to skin a cat. I see people who do not do things exactly the way I do and because I am a pompous jerk sometimes I can sound overbearing but variety is the spice of life. I think it is great that there are many ways to go about the tasks at hand and ths forum is moderated in a fashion that allows all opinions to surface. I hope that no-one such as Susan suggests is brow beat into not sharing their experiences. We know it happens but it should not.
