Does anyone out there use or have any info or opinions on the lifereef skimmers. I was just looking at there web site and thought that the self cleaning venturi idea looked pretty good. Or maybe I'm just too lazy to clean one. Thanks for your input
I also just got a VS24 about 2 weeks ago. It is outpreforming my old Aquaclear Aquatic skimmer 20:1. What a piece of juck that thing was. I told Jeff (Lifereef) that I want to upgrade my tank to a 2 or 3 hundred gallon in a couple of years and I believe he said the VS24 could handle it. You may want to call him and tell him about your setup and he can verify. Nice guy. He explains how skimmers work, etc. in great detail.
He ships on Tuesdays. So order before next Monday and you skimmer should be on the way. His site tells which model are in stock and which ones are out 2 or 3 weeks on skimmers, not 3 months. It is worth the wait. I love the gate valve that is on the skimmer output. Just close the gate valve a little if you want a little more contact time and wetter foam. Open the gate valve for dryer foam. This thing is a fine piece of equipment.
I'm on the waiting list for a berlin sump that will be modified to my specification.
I've got a VS3-24 on a 72g and would recommend it to anyone. I think mine would easily handle a 120g. I suggest emailing Jeff at Lifereef with your phone number and a time to call. He seems to like doing business this way. I'm sure he will answer any questions you have. From what he told me when I bought he makes up about 50 skimmers at a time so chances are he will have one on hand depending on the model etc. His sumps are all custom made to order and are what usually take at least a couple of months.
Is the (flanged) VS3 24 inch worth the extra $50.00 Our is this a feature I can live without?
Also whats the GPH of the pump he sells with the VS2 24 inch & how many AMPS/WATTS is the pump
I have a VS3 72" on my 500 and I am very happy with it. I could clean it every other day if I wanted to, but I wait till the scum gets nice and thick. Boy does it smell!
Reefscap-The flanged model would only be worth the money if your skimmer's is in an open cabinet where the skimmer is visible. That would be the only reason to take the skimmer apart for a thoughrough cleaning. If it is in a cabinet, then who cares how it looks! Cleaning the bottom part of the skimmer does not have any effect on the skimmers performance, according to Jeff at Lifereef.
You should call Jeff, he could answer all of you quetions.
