The other half said I could finally get a digital camera... Woo-Hoo!!!!! What is a good camera that is reasonably priced (400 or less) that has been utilized successfully for pictures of their tank? I am concerned that not all models work as well for taking pictures of a tank. I am not a photgrapher, so I cannot be sure, but your recomendatiosn would be of great help. I am not knowledgeable regarding digital cameras and could use the help.

I recently purchased a digital, these are what was important to me.

The largest requirement I wanted was a camera that took great Macro shoots.

I also wanted to have the editing software with the camera so that they were completely compatable.

I wanted a zoom but with all the comparing I was doing I thought I had this and got home and did not. I am still impressed with the camera.

I also wanteed to make sure the camera had some memory of its own and expandable memory disks.

I ended up getting a Polaroid Pdc 700 and enjoy what it does and enjoyed the price of $158.00 (software for two editing programs with it) as we are in the middle of building a horse barn and too many hobbies pulling at the same funds.

There are better camera's on the market but for what I use this for it fits the bill. I am not much of a tech head so someone else could advise you further.

One of the top rated digital cams on the market today is the FujiFinePix 4700 or 4800 . You can get it for around $300-$400.

Try costco.com and thinkgeek.com for the best prices.

For 400 you can get a Nikon Coolpix 775.
The camera is awesome. The pictures are stunning, especially in macro mode.
You will have no regrets buying a Nikon.
Do a search, because I have posted all the particulars about the 775 in other threads here.
My friend bought a cheaper camera last year. Now this year he's buying a Nikon.
Don't waste your time and money.
Jeez, I'm starting to sound like a commercial.

Howdy,

The Nikon line of digital cameras are great. I wanted one, but there weren't any priced below %500 when I was buying. I decided to go with a Kodak DC280, and have regretted it ever since.

I just played with a 775 the other day, and it was very nice. The only downside was the low Megapixel rating, but the price is right for a Nikon.

All I can say is stay away from Kodak cameras.

Scott.

the coolpix series IMO is definitely the baddest around when it comes to macro shots. i'd spend the extra $ and get the 990. JMO

My vote would have to go to the Olympus 700UZ. I have had it about 2 months now and I have had no regrets. Here were my need:

--It would mostly be used for tank shots so macro mode was a must

--If possible I wanted to use it a primary camera for everything. This was most difficult because of the small zooms that are mostly available. (2x, 3x)ps-pay way more attention to the OPTICAL zoom of the camera, pay less attention to the digital zoom.

--I wanted it to have plenty of manual options so that (if I learned how) I could try different exposures and stuff. (still working on that "stuff")

--I was not sure if I needed a 2mp or a 3mp

Well, the Olympus 700UZ was a perfect fit. It takes very good tank pictures, even better if I would get a tripod

and it has a VERY good zoom,10X OPTICAL !!!!!

I really have not used it much outside yet, just played with the zoom a little, but I am very impressed. It is slightly over the budget you mentioned, I got mine for $549, but for the fact that I can use it for everything I think it is worth it. OH, and it is a 2.1mp camera. I have printed some pictures and have not been disapointed yet. Here are some samples:

Here are some shots I took just to see how well the zoom worked on my Olympus 700UZ. I did not have a tripod, so possibly better quality if I had had one.

This one is with NO zoom

This one is with full OPTICAL Zoom (10X)

This one is with full OPTICAL Zoom and full DIGITAL Zoom. Digital zoom decreases image quality, but I am still impressed with this camera's zooming ability!!

Heres 2 as promised. Eventhough I dont like it cause my picture host knocks down the size which in turn messes up the sharpness. This is my 125g AGA that I just bought and my canopy the I made taller. Kinda like a DIY canopy sort of....

Fishaholic

PLEASE tell me how to get anything that's even worth LOOKING AT with the Polaroid PDC700! I'd be indebted to you for life! The only way I can get a pic with any kind of sharpness is to use the flash, and you can't do that up close:

Help!

Thanks,

Ok I threw some pics of my really old turboflotor skimmer with my OLYMPUS C2000Z. Here goes three pics so you can see that this is your camera of choice. Oh yeah forgot to mention that I bought this camera at Ubid Auction Site. I won a auction on it and the total for it with shipping was $319. Ok so I highly recommend this camera.

I have the Olympus C2000Z. I highly recommend this camera. It gets very sharp pictures from far or close. I dont have batteries right now, they are charging. Once its done I'll post some pictures so that you can see how good this camera is.
