What can someone tell me about the Carribbean Kling Fish? Is it reef safe? Any special requirements? The same goes for banded pipefish. What's the deal with these guys? What will they eat? How aggressive? Etc.
Banded pipefish have roughly the same requirements as a mandarin- lots of live food or pods to pick from and little or no competition for the food. They are very non aggressive, and also may be uncomfortable in high turbulence environments. Don't know about the clingfish.
clingfish are probably in the same category depending on the species. The smaller species (<4") are mainly zooplankton feeders mainly on pods and crustacean larvae. As with mandarins, they are non aggressive and as far as I know, behaviourly similar.
Clingfish are not hard to keep at all. They are aggressive eaters, and probably a threat to small gobies and shrimp (their mouth is pretty good sized). They tame pretty well.. most will eat right out of your hand. As far as I know they don't bother any corals or inverts too large to fit in their mouth, and I have kept them in groups with no problems.
My clingfish comes out from behind the rocks every night at feeding time to take food (usually pieces of raw fish, etc) out of my fingers. He has never been a problem in my reef tank.
