I have a 70 with a maroon clown and royal gramma. The maroon clown is awesome. He eats until his belly is about to pop and loves his bubble tip. He mostly hides among the rocks when the lights are on and sleeps in the anemone at night. Very cool fish. They get big and bad and can hold their own against bigger fish like tangs. He's not aggressive unless provoked.

IMO, royal grammas can't be beat. Peaceful, pretty, extremely reef safe, won't bother anything. Very easy to keep and their small size doesn't add much to the bioload.

I used to have a yellow tang before returning him to the LFS. He helped with algae control but was very bossy. I think yellow tangs really get too large for tanks like mine.

For you guys with anemones and clowns... Did you buy them both together? How long have you had your animals? Do the anemones "walk" around the tank?

I have 2 tanks with anemones and clowns. The first was a single bubble tip (now its 2) and a pair of tomato clowns. They live in a 240g tank. I added the anemone first. It move around all over the tank and then found a spot and hasnt moved in 2 years.
In my other tank I have a 4 inch gold band maroon clown. I added a big LTA to where I thought it would like to be. It crawled 3 inches the first/second day, stuck its foot between 2 rocks and into the sand and has been there for a month. My clown move out of my big bubble coral and right into the LTA.

One word of advice get the clown first though. With a healthy big anemone and no clown other fish just seem to turn into stung victims or lunch. 2 years ago I had a 4 inch tang that wandered into my clownless anemone and emerged with whip marks all over one side. Needless to say he stressed out, died and took a few other fish with him. With a resident clown to chase the other fish away I have never had a stung fish. When you do buy your anemone get one that looks bright and plump and is eating or stinging you when you try to move it.
