Does anyone know the scientific name for what GARF calls Bon

Name is: Acropora sp. To get any more definitive than that you would have to do some genetic testing as physical characteristics are highly variable in Acropora sp. Just b/c it looks like a certain picture does not mean that it's that species...

Sorry but I have to disagree......
I am sitting here looking at the piece that I got from GARF.......
It is purple under PC's (one 10K and one actinic) and the polyps do flourese green. It's one of my favorite pieces!

Looks like an Acropora valida to me. Colors can be quite remarkable but I have never seen one quite that artificial looking. HTH

Dude-

IMHO, attempting to ID acros (and most other SPS for that matter) is really rather pointless. You're taking a small piece of coral, and subjecting it to totally different lighting, feeding, and current regimes than it would normally experience in the wild. This will cause it to express different morphology, color, etc. And after all of this, you're trying to ID it with only one small portion of the original specimen. To top it off, you'll then be adding it to a tank that may have a 3rd different set of conditions. Best thing you can really do is look at hte pic, compare it to others you already have (or want), and hope for the best.

Acropora photshopus, you guys are funny. I would think that it would be a let down to order SPS from them because the real corals look like real corals , not photoshop creations.

Chucker has a really good point, especially trying to ID it from a picture.

I was out shopping for acros today and were looking for brown ones to fill up some gaps in the tank. I saw a nice deep brown piece and bought it home.
DAMN! In the tank, it was greener than the amazon basin!!! So much for brown acro. Now I have to make arrangements to have it moved to the top.
