Salifert all the way, the only one that has given me an accurate reading...
got mine at marine depot, somewhere between 12 and 18 bucks... best money ive spent on test kits...

I think it depends on what you are trying to measure.

For many applications (calcium, magnesium, phosphate, silica, alkalinity), the Hach kits are very good.

LaMotte kits are also very good for alkalinity, ammonia, nitrate.

salifert, the price depends, if you have no testing supplies, look for the on-line stores that do a bundle of the common ones, I know I got a reefkeeper bundle that saved me some money, but also gave me a couple of test kits that I find next to useless - I must be pink color blind because the iodine test kit is unreadable to me...I tried a couple of others over time, but come back to salifert

ok let me be more specific :

I am basically looking to replace my Calcium and Alkalinity test kits .

I am considering both the salifert and the la Motte which are not that different in price.

Which would be more accurate and easy to use ?

I like the Salifert Alk test and the Tropic Marin Calcium test. Both are under $20. Tropic is a little difficult to read though, goes from a very light blue to clear. It's much easier to read in a well lit room with a light background behind the vials.

I would go with the Lamotte alkalinity kit. It is easy to use and has a good color change. Far easier to read than the Salifert alkalinity kit.

I am currently using Hach for calcium. I have tried many different types and Hach has the best color change. Although, the accuracy of the kit is in question (at least mine does not seem to be accurate).
