[new reefer in michigan]

I was wondering what supplements are best and which ones to avoid. Does anyone use combisan? How about reef calcuim from sechem? Any others?

right now I am just adding iodine and coral-vite, I will be dripping kalk soon though.

Make this simple for yourself... stay away from all the extra stuff you don't need.
Kalkwasser drip will handle all your needs.

Man it's been quite awhile since i've been on reefs.org.

Anyway, i agree fully w/ smcnulty! No additives! You don't need them, they're just gimmicks. When do see mother nature pour in "snake oils"? Right, NEVER!

Anyway, i only dose Kalk every night/day (whenever it settles and can be dosed is when i do it). This replaces Kalk and balance the hardness continuously. To replenish lost ions, i perform frequent water changes (not the 25% monthly, by then it's too far out of synch). I change 5 gal EVERY week w/ fresh makeup. (remember to aerate the water at least 24 hours, or use a commercial mixing paddle to ensure consistency).

Take your time, keep up on maintenance (an oz. of prevention is greater than a lb of cure), and your hobby will blossom.
